SILVERTHORNE — A proposed Lowe's home-improvement store will go before the Silverthorne Planning Commission Tuesday evening.
The commission is scheduled to vote on the development's final site plan, wetlands disturbance permits and commercial subdivision. Any of the items that receive approval will move on to the Silverthorne Town Council for consideration on Sept. 8.
Lowe's has proposed to build a 111,000-square-foot store and attached 27,000-square-foot garden center at the intersection of Wildernest Road and Buffalo Mountain Drive.
The company estimates the proposed store would generate about $1.2 million in annual revenues to the town. But many owners of local independent businesses in the home-improvement and garden sectors are worried Lowe's presence would mean serious financial strain, especially in a difficult economy.
Home Depot also has an active development application before the Town of Silverthorne.
Tuesday's meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Silverthorne Town Hall.
