The Summit High girls' soccer team trailed just 1-0 at halftime Thursday. Facing a strong team like St. Mary's Academy on the road, the Tigers were thrilled with their position.

By the time the second half ended, though, the mood was a little different.

The St. Mary's offense exploded after the break, scoring six goals and running away with a 7-0 win.

Tiger goalie Hailey Curnutte made 22 saves in the loss, and Gogolen said sweeper Cora Zimmerman had an “outstanding game” for the Summit defense.

The Tiger coach also said freshman Isidra Luna Torres had a great game after being inserted into the starting lineup.

“All in all, I told them that if they walk off the field knowing they left everything out there, then they did everything they needed to,” head coach Tommy Gogolen said. “ ... I'm proud of the way the girls didn't hang their heads and kept playing hard.”

The Tigers (3-2) are back in action March 31 when they take on Valor Christian at 4 p.m. at home.
