With a brief, but promising summer season on the way Breckenridge Ski Resort is stepping up its game to offer a competitive mountain experience without the snow.
Mountain reps promise an enhanced summer fun park this year complete with all the usual attractions and the new Gold Run coaster, an elevated-track roller coaster built into the mountain side and opened for the first time this winter.
With cork screw spirals, sharp drops and hard turns, the Gold Run Coaster combines the experience of a waterslide and a roller coaster on a two-passenger cart that allows riders to control their speed. The track winds through the trees between runs on Peak 8.
Summer begins at Breck June 17, with a climbing wall, SuperBungee trampoline, spin cycle, bounce house, gemstone panning and mini golf a the base of Peak 8.
The mountain will also offer guided hikes, mountain biking and scenic lift rides to mountain-top restaurants.
The resort will have extended hours on weekends this summer, with fun park attractions open until 7:30 on weekends from July 1 to Aug. 13. The resort is open daily through Sept. 4 and weekends only through Sept. 18. Weekday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Parking for fun park guests will be available in the Gondola South parking lot in central Breckenridge and the resort will provide shuttle buses up to the base of Peak 8. The gondola will be running July 1 through Aug. 13.
A summer fun pass is available for the first time this year, offering unlimited visits and full access to fun park attractions including the new Gold Runner Coaster Friday and Saturday afternoons from 3-7:30 p.m. and also provides access to club events at the T-bar Friday afternoons and Chuck Wagon barbecues on the patio at Ski Hill Grill. The pass runs guests $165 for adults and $75 for kids.
