The July 14 kayaker death on the Blue River has been deemed a drowning, however, because the victim had a bad heart, the pathologist couldn't rule out a possible medical event preceding the drowning.
Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson is recording the death as an accidental drowning because it was unwitnessed.
William Keen, 50, of Dillon, was wearing a helmet and life vest, reported rafters who saw him moments prior to his death. His body was found in the Blue River north of Silverthorne near the Columbine Landing take out.
Keen, who was known in the local rafting community, was seen kayaking just moments before rafters found him face down in the river. They pulled him out and began CPR while awaiting emergency responders.
Keen is survived by his wife and four children.
