With a total score 30 strokes better than last week, the Summit Tiger golf team had a significantly better outing Wednesday at the Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield.
Coach Gary Sorensen said golf is a inconsistent game and a four letter-word, but he expects to see constant improvemnt from the squad.
“We have a young squad and they're only going to get better as they become accustomed to the pressure of playing in a competitive setting,” Sorensen said.
The Tigers finished fifth for the tournament with a combined score of 341 — that's an improvement from the ninth-place finish and total score of 371 the previous week. Evan Streit had the low round for the team with a 76, which was good enough to tie him for third in the individual overall. His round consisted of 12 pars and a couple tweeters.
Nick Wittrock improved from a 97 the previous week to shoot an 89, followed by Corey McMurray who also shot an 89, which was 11 strokes better than his previous outing. David Metzger rounded out the team's top-four with a score of 87.
Hotshot Dylan Mitchell, who won the season's first tournament with a scorching 69, was in California and did not play.
Valor Christian won the tournament, with Evergreen and D'Evlyn taking second and third, respectively.
Sorensen said the team plans to continue practicing at the ranch and they're capable of improvement every week. He said all the players could drop another four or five strokes, and their lack of experience will provide an opportunity for all the players to get better.
