After being closed for several hours this afternoon, Interstate 70 westbound is now open to traffic.
All westbound lanes were closed earlier today after adverse weather conditions caused several slide offs. The Colorado Department of Transportation shut the road down to traffic to allow time to remove the stranded vehicles and for crews to plow and treat the highway.
As of 7 p.m. eastbound traffic was moving, though slowly toward Denver.
Chain laws are in effect for commercial trucks in both directions between Idaho Springs and Beaver Brook, eastbound at Vail Pass, from Silverthorne to the Eisenhower Tunnel and from Floyd Hill to Rooney Road. Chains are required westbound from Georgetown to the Eisenhower tunnel and U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass.
Snowplows are on 12-hour shifts from Denver west to Summit County. The Colorado Department of Transportation has nine snow plow trucks working between the Morrison interchange and Floyd Hill and eight trucks working U.S. 285 between Morrison and Baily.
Winter driving conditions are present along all state highways with snowpacked and icy roads and poor visibility, according to a statement from CDOT.
