Boulder judge: No bond yet for Michael Clark, suspect in 1994 Marty Grisham murder

An emotional Michael Clark appeared in Boulder District Court for the first time today after being arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in the 1994 shooting of Marty Grisham, the city's director of information services.

Clark, a friend of Grisham's daughter, pleaded guilty to theft and forgery for stealing checks from Grisham, and investigators considered him a suspect at the time. However, he always denied being involved in the murder.

Grisham was shot four times in the face and chest by an unknown assailant on the night of Nov. 1, 1994, when he answered a knock on the door. The crime shocked the community in its seeming randomness.

Boulder detectives reopened the investigation in 2009. On Thursday, they took Clark, now 36 and living in Dillon in Summit County, into custody on a first-degree murder warrant.
