The Summit High boys' basketball team was outmatched in its game against Green Mountain at home Friday. The Tigers lost 62-22.
Green Mountain has a solid team with a handful of really large players — one kid measuring 6 foot, 9 inches and four other players north of the six-foot mark.
Head coach Phil Tronsrue said the players talked about putting the game behind them and focusing on the matchup against Battle Mountain on Tuesday.
“We were playing hard. We were competing the best we could. We were just outmanned. There's nothing we could do about it,” Tronsrue said.
Green Mountain's big man had 24 points, draining three pointers and only missing one shot, Tronsrue recalls.
“We just talked about how we kept trying to compete. Now, with Battle Mountain on Tuesday, at least size-wise, we matchup well with them. So we're getting ready for them. They're a team we can definitely play against,” the coach said.
While Battle Mountain is definitely a big rival for the Tigers due to the over-the-pass proximity, the Huskies are in a different league, so there aren't any playoff implications. But it's definitely one the Tigers would like to have in the win column.
“They're a rival because obviously they're right over the mountain. We want to go over there and play well and get after them Tuesday night,” Tronsrue said.
