I would like to inform of a stressful situation that just Wednesday came to a conclusion. Eight days ago, I was sent an important piece of mail via Priority that the post office charges extra for. To be clear with you, it did not have a confirmation, or tracking number, but it was sent from Carbondale, Colo., a two-hour drive from here. It was in a priority envelope of approximately 6” by 8” provided by the post office and cost $5 to send.
It took eight days to arrive in Frisco!
Apparently it first goes to Grand Junction, then to Denver and finally back to Frisco. The pre 1900s Pony Express could have delivered it in less time for less money! And far more directly. I know there is some reorganization of delivery happening with the USPS, but this is ludicrous. No wonder the postal service is losing money with this kind of “service.” I would urge anyone with important mail to send that they consider Fed Ex, UPS, or even horseback as a more viable means of sending important mail. If you must use the USPS, be sure to guarantee delivery for your extra fees. Require a signed or confirmed delivery, tracking number, or whatever guarantees delivery in a reasonable amount of time. This has now happened twice to me in less than two months.
I no longer trust the USPS to do a good job of handling our mail although the regular mail delivery may indeed take less time to arrive. They should not be able to charge inflated prices for slower service. Be aware.
