Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world's only daily column that sends out a big Summit Up happy birthday to Florence Mosher, who turns 90 Saturday. Avid reader/s of Summit Up may recall that, sometime around Jan. 1, we babbled something about doing more good deeds in 2012 — including walking more little old ladies across the street. We qualified that by noting that we didn't there were that many little old ladies in Summit County, but we soon received an email from Michael Mosher (aka Mosh) in Breckenridge noting that his mom, Florence, was indeed a local little old lady who'd soon be turning the big 9-0.
And then, lo and behold, a few of the Summit Up Central Staffers happened to be in Breck on Thursday, and there was Florence, looking to cross the street by the Old County Courthouse. Then, lo and behold, Sheriff John Minor and county commissioners Dan Gibbs and Thomas Davidson showed up, along with SDN columnist and Breckenridge town council dude Jeffrey Bergeron. Also on hand were Mosh and family friend Laurie Best. And we got the great photo you see on today's front page — completely unstaged!
Also celebrating her 90th birthday Saturday is Florence's twin sister, Virginia Ann Rountree, who lives in Florida. There will be a family celebration at Carter Park Feb. 11. So happy birthday, ladies, and thanks to all the Summit County luminaries who happened to walk by on Thursday. That was just crazy!

Avid Summit Up reader may also recall a bunch of haiku sent in to us by local eighth-trader Heather Johnston. Since she's such an enthusiastic haiku-er, we gave her a little assignment to compose a haiku about a weird animal every day for the next week. Heather didn't let us down; here's her first entry:
The Sugar Glider
It's a kind of striped possum
So, thank you Google.
Can't wait for tomorrow when Heather weights in in haiku fashion on the pygmy marmoset.
Also in haiku news, Sue Aspinall writes:
Hi . I'm a tourist in Summit County and this is my experience in the grocery store
Trolley full of coats
every checkout line long
maybe miss the bus
Thanks Sue! Anyone else with a haiku burning in their soul, send it our way at summitup@summitdaily.com.
That's it for today, folks. Let's hear it for the newly minted nonagenerians out there!
