‘The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Music!' at St. John's church in Breckenridge

This morning, enjoy an inspirational morning worship service with music provided by Verne Hoogheem, local trombonist and Jeanie Dedrick Kramer, music director & organist at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 100 S. French St., Breck. Rev. Christy Shain-Hendricks will lead the 10:30 a.m. service, as these musicians join together in sharing their gifts of music with the parish community.

Hoogheem, originally from Illinois, moved to Breckenridge in 2000. Prior to retirement, Hoogheem was a public school instrumental music teacher in suburban Chicago. During his 30 years of teaching in Skokie, Il., he played trombone in the Evanston Symphony Orchestra. Currently, in Summit, Hoogheem plays trombone with the Summit Concert Band and the Summit Community Orchestra, as well as St. John's. His love of music and sharing his gift in the mountains is Verne's passion.

Dedrick Kramer was trained as an organist and classical pianist in New York. Prior to moving to Silverthorne in 2007, she served as a church organist in New York since 1967. Kramer is a retired N.Y., teacher, who currently provides private piano and organ instruction in Summit.

Last Nordic skiing for kids session/camp of the season begins Monday

The final Nordic skiing for children of elementary age (from age 5 years old) session/camp of the season is Monday, Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20 at the Keystone Nordic Center at the River Golf Course. Equipment/lesson/refreshment all included for $26. Outfitting is from 4-4:15 and skiing starts at 4:30. Participants will be ready for pickup at 5:45. Makeup date is Feb. 27. The Peak School Open House Feb. 12

The Peak School invites all interested families and community members to attend an open house on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 3-5 p.m. at The Peak School, 103 S. Harris, (old CMC) in Breckenridge. The Peak School, a new independent school, is now accepting applications for Fall 2012 enrollment. Join us at the open house to learn more and meet others!
