Patrick Giberson graduated from Summit High School in 1999 before attending the University of Colorado at Boulder. There, he earned a bachelor of science and went on to graduate second in his class in December of 2004 with a master's degree in civil engineering and an emphasis in structural engineering.
After school, he went to work for KL&A Structural Engineers in Golden while his wife, Summit High grad Erin Sain, attended dental school at the University of Colorado in Denver. The two were high school sweethearts and got married in the summer of 2005.
They moved back to Silverthorne in March of last year, and had their first child, Chloe, in August.
“My wife and I chose to move back to Summit for the outdoor activities and lifestyle,” Giberson said. In the summers, he competes in the Summit Mountain Challenge — something he did throughout college — and in the winters, he likes to Nordic and backcountry ski. He said that Chloe already likes to ski — “in a chariot, of course.”
The couple also has four
Jack Russell Terriers, which can be found “running down the mountain bike trails right on my wheel,” Giberson said. “There is never a dull moment in our household.”
After moving back to Summit, Giberson opened up his own business, Backcountry Structural Engineering. It's something he has always wanted to do.
“Engineering requires problem solving — you are always challenged to find the most practical and economical solution,” Giberson said. “I love working with the community and knowing my work will benefit Summit County.”
When he's not engineering, he can be found helping out at Sain's new dental practice, Backcountry Family Dental in Silverthorne.
Of his time at SHS, Giberson remembers Mr. Akin's technology classes. He said that being able to learn AutoCAD in high school influenced his whole life.
“Summit High School kids are very privileged,” Giberson said. “I did not realize this until I had been away from Summit for a number of years. Not only did I receive an excellent education at Summit High, but I was well-rounded because of the extracurricular activities Summit has to offer.”
