Emily Young Baum was born on June 22, 1925, she grew up in Milwaukee, Wis. She died on Jan. 22 in Denver. She married Harry L. Baum, Jr., a Denver native, during WWII in Washington, D.C.
When they returned to Denver after the war, Emmy was expecting the Wild West. Emmy was a generous, intelligent and loving person, a tireless volunteer for the Denver Symphony and the Denver Art Museum, a loyal contributor to multiple charities and institutions, as well as a lifelong universal blood donor.
Emmy was an active, creative and devoted mother. She encouraged and supported her husband in his endeavors, including his participation in the development of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in the 1950s and while he was the owner/operator of Breckenridge Ski Area in the 1960s and 1970s.
Emmy was predeceased by her brother George Washington Young, and her husband, Harry L. Baum, Jr. Her survivors include her son Harry L. Baum III (Susanne Johnston); her daughter Georgia; Baum Laudner (Bill Laudner); her son S. Wells Baum (Vera Cohen); and her son Jeff D. Baum (Patty Hannus Baum). She was “Mimi” to her grandsons Alex Baum, Nick Baum and Billy Baum and to her granddaughter Tillie Schuhart.
