Sierra storms produce season's top ski conditions

RENO, Nev. - It may be later than they wanted, but Sierra Nevada resort operators are rejoicing after a string of storms produced the season's best skiing conditions.

The Boreal and Soda Springs resorts north of Lake Tahoe report receiving 6-8 feet from storms over the last week.

The Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley resorts just north of Tahoe report getting up to 4 feet of snow over a 24-hour period ending Saturday afternoon, for a total of nearly 7 feet of new snow over the last week.

The Heavenly resort on Tahoe's south shore reports it's now 100 percent open after receiving 2 to 4 feet of fresh powder Saturday.

The storms boosted the water content of the Tahoe basin's snowpack to 48 percent of normal for the date.
