Opera Colorado Young Artists will play a special performance tonight at 7 at the Colorado Mountain College Finkel Auditorium, presented by the Breckenridge-based National Repertory Orchestra (NRO). Doors open at 6:15 with a cash bar. Tickets are $10, $5 for youth and $20 for premium seating.
The show is titled "Highways and Byways" as the group travels the state performing popular renditions from their operatic and musical theater repertoire, including highlights from all three of Opera Colorado's main-stage operas. Performances also include background information and interesting facts about program selections to educate attendees.
"Just as the National Repertory Orchestra attracts excellent young musicians, Opera Colorado has a great track record of attracting superb emerging artists," said organizer David Pessel. "We're thrilled to be able to bring this year's group here to Summit County for all of us to meet and enjoy." The program is recognized as a way to connect with the community and expand the outreach of opera and youth music.
Program highlights include Danielle Greiner (soprano), Christopher Besch (baritone), John Allen-Nelson (baritone), Amy Maples (soprano) and Dustin Peterson (tenor). These youth performers spend time with the company and in outreach and educational programs in local schools. They also enhance the company's main stage performances by singing comprimario roles in many performances. Young Artists have gone on to sing main stage roles with professional opera companies and have won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
The Opera Colorado series presents an opportunity to see the next generation of opera singers perform in a local, personal setting.
