On Sunday, the fourth annual Backstage Theatre's Backstage Bash will take place once again with a pre-party, at least 12 performing acts, and an on-stage post-show reception. The Backstage Bash is the annual fundraising event for the Breckenridge-based community theater with only one performance held.Last year's Bash sold out. The Backstage Bash has become an annual tradition for the theater community consisting of musical performances, comedy and surprise performance acts. The pre-show party begins at 4:30 upstairs at Fatty's Pizzeria in Breckenridge, where a silent auction will take place and appetizers will be served. The show goes on at 5:30 at the Breckenridge Theatre across the street from Fatty's. A desert reception will take place onstage after the performance.Twelve featured acts will compete for trophies and audience appreciation. "This is our fourth annual Bash, and the second time we have incorporated the Topsy Turvy variety theme," said Willard. "This year groups are gathering sponsors and competing for the honor of winning our Topsy Turvy Trophy, a unique traveling trophy that the winner will keep until next year's Bash." Willard has been leading the theater for seven years now. "It's a chance for us folks in Summit County to relax, not take ourselves too seriously, to goof off and act out," he said. "What better day to do that than on April Fool's Day? We're claiming this day as a Topsy Turvy Day where you can count on the Backstage opening its doors for any and everyone to take the stage and go a little crazy!"Featured acts include: Jon Hans, The Pine Beatles, Grand Lodge, Lady Pamela O'Neil, Drew Reges & Adam Helfrich in "Guy Love," Michael Klepper with "Summit News," Tyler Vitale with "The Snowboard Help Line," Dancing with the Summit County Rejects, The Return of Noah and the Arcs, and more.Jeffrey Bergeron will return to host the event; Backstage Theatre artistic director Christopher Willard is the director. The Bash showcases community talent in a celebration of comedy, fun and entertainment with an "April Fool's" theme. "This year we're featuring a few less performers and keeping the playing time at around 90 minutes," Willard said. "We want to have a good time, but we also want to get to the after-show dessert reception and home a little sooner, too." Tickets are $65 and people are encouraged to attend the pre-party to participate in the silent auction. People can also donate directly to the Backstage Theatre securely through their website. Guests should be aware that the production contains some adult material and seating is limited. Money raised helps support operating and production costs for the theater.
