Jazz quartet performs Mountain Top Children's Museum fundraiser in Breckenridge tonight

The Mountain Top Children's Museum in Breckenridge is hosting jazz saxophonist Dave Pietro tonight at the Beaver Run Resort to raise funds for the museum. Pietro will take the stage with a quartet of Denver-based musicians at 7:30 p.m.

A repeat event, the performance got rave reviews last year. "Everybody was just ranting and raving about the talent," museum director Laura Horvath said.

The Mountain Top Children's Museum, located on South Park Ave., offers multiple exhibits for children 10 and under to experience, interact with and learn. For example, the Mountain Top Medical Center exhibit allows kids to learn about the body inside and out. At the Rocky Mountain Wildlife exhibit, children can make animal tracks, learn to identify scat, fish for trout and put on their own wildlife puppet show. At the Tot Spot, kids 2 and under can keep hands and bodies busy with a variety of different activities.

The New York-based Pietro travels around the world as a soloist, clinician, bandleader and sideman. He was recently awarded two grants from Chamber Music America to compose and perform an original extended jazz work. His new "Chakra Suite" blends aspects of Brazilian, East Indian and American jazz music and uses the Chakra System as an organizing principle.

Tickets for tonight's event are $15 and cocktail hour starts at 7:30 p.m., with an ongoing silent auction starting at 6:30. Reservations are recommended.

The museum is also hosting Kids Night Out from 6-9 p.m., where parents can drop off kids ages 4-12 at the museum. Kids Night Out includes dinner and activities. If parents are attending the fundraiser, the price is $15 for the first child and $5 for each sibling.
