Talented critters perform at the Riverwalk Tuesday

A dog, a pig and a cockatoo star in The Cast-a-Ways at the Riverwalk Center Tuesday as part of Imagination Express, an affordable kids' series presented by the town of Breckenridge. The popular show involves the animals performing a variety of acts from roller-skating and soccer to Frisbee tricks.

The Cast-a-Ways themselves are rescue animals who now live in comfort on a 25-acre ranch amid rolling hills of pine and oak south of Denver. They perform for about 30 minutes on stage led by renowned animal trainer and performer John Vincent.

"These are rescue animals given up by other people, but it shows what can happen if you put in a little time and effort to make them something great," Vincent said. "I love some of the antics the animals pull; they are always doing something maybe a little bit different. I love watching the people's response; people seem to love the animals."

Panji the cockatoo opens by clowning around, misbehaving and showing off his animal intelligence before going for a scooter ride and roller-skating around the table like he did on Animal Planet's "Pet Star." Bullet, an Australian cattle dog, jumps high through hoops, plays with Frisbees and performs other tricks. Mudslinger, the sports enthusiast pig, rounds out the show with piggy golf, soccer, a Frisbee routine and more.

"They really demonstrate their joy in entertaining people ... they truly love to work and the audience loves their routines," said Vincent. "If people like animals, this is a great show to see."

The Imagination Express series features a variety of performances highlighting top acts in children's entertainment. General admission is $5 per person. Purchase tickets at www.breckenridgeriverwalkcenter.com or call (970) 547-3100.

"If these pets don't amaze you, I will be surprised," animal trainer Vincent said.
