2012 Guitar Town at Copper

Copper Mountain Resort's Center Village transforms into Guitar Town this weekend for the eighth year, featuring a star-studded lineup of guitar greats, both acoustic and electric. The festival runs tonight through Sunday and includes free live performances, all-star sunset jams and intimate morning workshops with renowned guitarists. Live music starts at noon each day and there will be music-related entertainment for kids too. More than 20 decorated ArtGuitars will be auctioned to benefit the Grammy Foundation's Music Cares program, which provides assistance to musicians in times of need.

Among the guitarists on the lineup for this year's festival are Eric Johnson, Bruce Cockburn, Lee Roy Parnell, Joe Robinson and the festival's "de facto" creative director, John Jorgenson."Eric Johnson is a modern master of the electric guitar ... known for his exquisite tone. He is a perfect example of many of the artists at Guitar Town, a 'player's player' who other guitarists revere for his combination of tone, taste and technique," Jorgenson said."Bruce Cockburn is a triple threat, being equally good at singing, songwriting and guitar playing; ... Lee Roy Parnell is renowned for his soulful slide playing," said Jorgenson.Joe Robinson, who won Australia's Got Talent, returns again this year, as do Johnson and Parnell. "He's already amazed audiences around the world with his energy and technique, and he's just getting started," Jorgenson said.Other performers include Phil Keaggy and Doyle Dykes, who are "huge names in the Christian music world," the Nashville-based songwriter Mark Selby and his blues/rock trio and UK-born "fingerstyle genius" Richard Smith. "Jazz stylings from Sean McGowan, Hendrix-inspired Phil Brown, intricate acoustic work and hypnotic fingerpicking from our host Scott Goldman round out the program," Jorgenson said.
