Summit County Community Notes: 9-15-2012

Are you ready for a new adventure? Become a volunteer for Advocates for Victims of Assault here in Summit County and make a difference! As a volunteer on call, you will work with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and grief/trauma. Fall volunteer training begins Monday and runs through Oct. 17 each Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided. If you would like to sign up for the training or just have questions, call Advocates at (970) 668-3906.

The Knights of Columbus and FIRC need monetary donations for the Summit County "Coats for Kids" Campaign. Boxes containing 12 new winter coats cost $200. Any monetary donation will be greatly appreciated! Would you consider helping the children in need? Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to the Knights of Columbus, P.O. Timberline Learning Center hosts the third annual Wit, Wine and Dine at 6 p.m. on Sept. 22, at the Riverwalk Center in Breck. Cost: $65 per person and $360 for a table of six. The evening includes live comedy from Denver Comedy Works, complimentary wine, a fantastic dinner and a tremendous silent auction. Call (970) 453-9656 for additional info.

The Summit-Lake Dillon Optimist Club is now conducting its annual ski pass raffle. A $2 ticket (or six tickets for $10) buys a chance to win a season pass to Copper Mountain, Loveland,

A-Basin, or the Vail Epic Pass.

Your local Optimist Club supports a wide variety of activities for the youth of Summit County, including basketball, volleyball, oratorical and essay contests,and chess tournaments. The proceeds from the ski pass raffle are used to provide scholarships to graduating seniors at Summit High School. The drawing is Oct. 17 at 12:30 p.m. at the Summit County Community and Senior Center and you do not need to be present to win. Tickets are available at any Alpine Bank or First Bank location, Dillon Ridge Liquor, or the Edward Jones office of Mark Nunn in Frisco.

Kids are back in school... A hint of fall is in the air! Breckenridge's own Backstage Theatre welcomes all enthusiastic theatre supporters who would like to join our volunteer corps. We hammer, nail, paint, create and most of all... participate! Whether working the box office on performance dates or assisting with advertising or set production, the Backstage volunteer has a plethora of opportunities! Interested?
