Feldberg: Kathleen Curry a good candidate for HD61

I am writing to express my personal support for Kathleen Curry's candidacy for the Colorado State House, and correct the impression that may have been created by letters written by Jeremy Rubingh and published in several papers in the district.

Mr. Rubingh weaves together some random facts to conclude that Kathleen Curry is a flawed candidate. Neither his 'facts' nor his conclusion could be farther from the truth. I have quite simply never worked with anyone who is as gifted a leader as Kathleen. Kathleen is determined, driven, mature, reasonable, compromising at times and steadfast to her principles at other times ... exactly what we want from our legislators. I should know. Kathleen served as executive director while I served as president of the Mount Crested Butte Performing Arts Center. Her tenure there was short, but that had nothing to do with a lack of commitment or leadership. Kathleen was asked to stay longer than she wanted and she complied, so that she could oversee the smooth transition to the current management team which is effectively continuing our efforts without a hitch. Kathleen's contract specifically addressed her intention to run for office, and it was contemplated from the start that a run by her might terminate her stint at MCBPAC.

Voters need only take an objective look at the public facts to make the same conclusion. Kathleen became an independent because she voted in the best interest of her constituents, contrary to her party's position, when she served as state legislator from 2004 to 2010. The party retaliated against her for that vote, stripped her of committee positions and more recently, gerrymandered her district to make it more difficult to win. Faced with these roadblocks, she ran in 2010 for State Assembly as an independent and very nearly won; she needed only .6 percent more of the vote ... as in less than one percent. Undeterred, she is running again. To restate, she is driven, mature, reasonable, compromising at times and steadfast to her principles at other times ... exactly what we want from our legislators. Add to that, experienced, unbeholden to a party or special interests, and possessing a demonstrated track record of voting in the best interest of her constituents despite the fallout to her personally. She is a remarkable candidate and voters would be wisely acting in their own best interest to cast their ballots for Kathleen Curry.
