Flu shot clinics start today in Summit County schools

High Country Healthcare will host flu shot clinics in Summit County schools to make immunization of students, their families and the community easier, while raising funds for parent-teacher associations in Summit. High Country Healthcare will donate five dollars from each vaccination to the PTA associated with each school.

While clients can schedule regular appointments at High Country Healthcare locations in Breckenridge, Frisco or Silverthorne for a flu shot, the school-based locations, dates and times are:

Today: 4-5:30 p.m., Summit Cove Elementary

Wednesday: 4-5:30 p.m., Breckenridge Elementary

Oct. 1: 3-4:30 p.m., Frisco Elementary

Oct. 2: 2:30-3:30 p.m., The Peak School

Oct. 3: 3-5 p.m., Summit Middle School

Oct. 10: 3-5 p.m., Summit High School

Oct. 16: 4-5:30 p.m., Silverthorne Elementary

(Summit schools not listed are currently working on reviewing their schedules for a clinic)

The school-based flu clinics will accept only cash or check for payment of $25 for the shot and $35 for the mist. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the vaccine consent form prior to receiving a shot. These flu shot clinics are available to all community members.

"We are committed to creating a healthy community. Providing neighborhood flu clinics, while helping out our schools, is one step toward that goal," said High Country Healthcare CEO Rhonda Koehn.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that people get vaccinated against influenza as soon as possible since flu seasons are unpredictable and can begin as early as October, peaking in January and February. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body to provide protection against the flu.
