Holub: Check validity of quote before printing it

Re. "New church in Silverthorne has first Mass Saturday," by Paige Blankenbuehler, Sept. 7

I read the article about the new Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Silverthorne. I celebrate with that faith community on the opening of their new facility.

However, I take issue with the closing paragraph of your article and am disturbed by its implications. I see it was in quotes but am not exactly sure who was being quoted.

"Now that the church is in a central place in Summit County, people have a place to come in during the day for worship - there are no other places for them to go during the day because other churches are locked. We now have the space and staff to have office hours that are open to the public."

That statement is simply not true. Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church has its doors open seven days a week. People meditate and pray in our facility on a daily basis and encounter the hospitality of our staff. We provide a Saturday ski season winter worship experience. Our facility is the home of numerous groups that meet here on a daily and regular basis including AA and Al-Anon groups; the home of three other faith communities; the home for the concert series of Summit Music and Arts and we often host Alpenglow, Breckenridge Music Festival and Fall For The Arts events. We also provide, several days a week, laundry facilities, Internet services, showers and use of telephone for the homeless and persons of need in Summit County. This is only a partial list of the many groups and people who access our facility on a daily and regular basis. It is my suggestion that before you print a quote like that, you might check out the validity of it. It is a public insult to us, and I know to other faith communities whose doors are not locked during the days of the week. Sincerely,
