Breckenridge man charged with vehicular homicide in Saturday crash

A Breckenridge man is facing charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and DUI after he crashed the Jeep he was driving on Ski Hill Road, killing one of the passengers early Saturday morning.

Maverick James Bain, 24, of Breckenridge had reportedly been drinking when he sped around a right-hand curve, lost control and rolled car, ejecting one of the four passengers in the car.

Blake W. Roberts, 21, of Summit County, later died. Another passenger was transported to Summit Medical Center with minor injuries.

Breckenridge police were searching for the fourth passenger, Andrew Lee Kirk, 24, of Broomfield, according to a statement released by the department Saturday. It is unclear whether Kirk could face charges as well.

The driver, Bain, is charged with one felony count of vehicular homicide, one count of vehicular assault, also a felony, and misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, driving under the influence and driving under the influence BAC > .08.

He was being held Saturday at the Summit County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

The accident was reported at 2:14 a.m. Saturday. A witness reported hearing the Jeep traveling fast up Ski Hill Road, then seeing it enter a right-hand curve and begin to slide. The driver reportedly over corrected and the vehicle rolled, according to the police statement.

Authorities found the white Jeep turned on its passenger side.

CPR was performed on Roberts, who had been thrown from the vehicle, but he later died.

Roberts was originally from Edina, Minn, according to a report from the Summit County Coroner's Office.

He'd lived in Summit County for approximately three years.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Kirk, the missing fourth passenger, is asked to contact the Breckenridge Police Department at (970) 668-6800.
