Johnson: Let's keep religion out of politics

In response to Don Chisholm's letter "Autumn Reflections." I agree with you that Mother Nature has and still brings us beautiful colors and sites, but I do have to disagree with the rest of what you had to say.

I love it when many Christian/Catholics think they are the only religion in America. Let's for once not think about just ourselves but as a whole. Let's look at our neighbor that has come from a war-torn Sierra Leone working as a cashier, he may be Muslim and need some help paying for his diabetes. Or our non-religious friend that has a seasonal job, employed most of the year but between shifts from winter job to summer job and can't afford Cobra health insurance. It can't be fun living in fear; the fact that you don't have insurance and then receiving a hefty ER bill, hoping you don't get hurt or fall ill during that time. It could be one of our Mormon co-workers that has cancer and is running out of his or her retirement savings paying for life-saving treatment, hoping that the private insurance they've been paying for for years, approves the doctor's treatment.

We need to get out of the mentality that there is just my beliefs or my religion. Why did the Pilgrims come to the America? For a better life and freedom from religious persecution. Let's be proud of our religion/values but also think about others and not just what is good for me or my religious beliefs but for the U.S. as a whole. The world would be in a better place.

Please let's keep religion out of our politics.
