Summit County Arts & Entertainment briefs 10-26-12

The new "Get Stoked" winter film series starts tonight at Warren Station, located in River Run Village at Keystone. The evening features two films - "Because" by Two Plank Productions, a story-based project featuring backcountry adventures shot over two record snowfall winters around the globe, and "The Eighty Six," a ski film by Stept Productions that takes guerilla filmmaking to new levels. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the films start at 7:30 p.m. It's $5/adults and free for 12 and under.

Breckenridge's Backstage Theatre is seeking actors and actresses, 20 to 60, for "Out of Order," a British farce by Ray Cooney. All positions are paid. Auditions take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Starkey Productions, 8201 E. Pacific Place, Denver. Email smitty_24@juno.com or call (970) 412-0710 to schedule an audition. The South Park Friends of the Fairplay Library will host events with Colorado poet laureate David Mason Saturday and Sunday to support construction of the South Park Learning Center. On Saturday from 1-3 p.m., Mason will host a Poetry Writers Workshop at the Fairplay Library, 418 Main St. Reservations: (970) 836-4299. Step through the doors of "the spookiest establishment in Breckenridge" on Halloween (Wednesday) for Haunted Hearthstone, a three-course dinner with menu options including "baked Big Bird," "filet of roast beast," "King of the Deep monster salmon" and "vampire vegetarian spring roll." Guests are encouraged to dress in costume, and prizes will be awarded in several categories. Hosted by the Hearthstone Restaurant, 130 S. The deadline for the Bach, Beethoven and Breckenridge poster contest is Thursday. Work may be in oil, watercolor, pastel or acrylic and should measure 18 inches x 24 inches, vertical or horizontal. Nearly 6,000 a cappella vocalists congregate in Denver for Sweet Adelines International's 66th annual convention and competition, Monday through Nov. 3 at the Pepsi Center and the Colorado Convention Center (CCC). Sweet Adelines International will have learning tracks, sheet music and other items for music lovers on sale. More than 65 quartets and 40 choruses will compete, and all competition concerts are open to the public. Access Gallery, 909 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, presents an exhibit showcasing the paintings of three deaf artists - Nancy Rourke, Tony Fowler and Warren Miller - whose latest work focuses on the deaf culture in America. "De'VIA" (Deaf View, Image, Art) opened last week and runs through Nov. 10.

The Summit Daily has an internship opportunity available starting in November. Interns will commit to a set weekly schedule, with duties to include writing articles, proofing pages, fact-checking and organizational duties as assigned. A background in journalism and knowledge of Associated Press style preferred.
