The superstorm Sandy has delivered a hugely devastating blow to the East Coast. The Rotary Club of Summit County is encouraging all in Summit County to contribute to its rescue by sending checks to the Summit County Rotary Charitable Foundation, and specify "Sandy relief" in the memo. All of these funds will be aggregated (no administrative reductions whatsoever) and sent to a Rotary fund established to afford relief in New Jersey, New York and other hard-hit areas. Please make out checks to Summit County Rotary Charitable Foundation and send to PO Box 4401, Frisco 80443.

Join us on Facebook for Alpine Bank's nonprofit Facebook challenge. Alpine Bank has selected Family & Intercultural Resource Center(FIRC) as one of seven community nonprofits to compete for the most votes. For every vote that FIRC receives, the bank will donate $1 in support. Then at the end of the challenge, the nonprofit with the most votes will receive an additional $500 donation from Alpine Bank. Participating is easy. Simply go to Alpine Bank's Facebook page and click on the 'Contest' app tab at the top of the page. You will then be able to vote for the nonprofit of your choice. You can only vote once, so choose carefully. This will take you just a minute to do and will help support seven wonderful nonprofits. Everyone's a winner. But you better hurry; the challenge will only run from Nov. 1 through Nov. 16, so vote today.

A new nonprofit called Earth Medicine Housing, Inc. needs new local board members. We want to provide housing to the most seniors, disabled and people who have take home incomes lower than $1,500 or less. We want to provide housing for permanent, year-round residents. And we want to use innovative earth-friendly building methods, including solar, hot water floor heat, solar hot water and such. There may also be some self-help building projects. We may want to create a store for recycling and donated building products (not furniture like Habitat for Humanity is doing). We need someone to create a website that can take donations and other kinds of volunteers as well. Contact: Karen Degenhart (970) 468-9111 or kdegenhart8@gmail.com.
