Copper Mountain opened the American Flyer Lift at noon Saturday, adding access to the High Point trail and nearly 40 acres of open terrain. The ski area leads the tally in the county going into Thanksgiving weekend.
"The long and wide High Point run made for excellent skiing on this sunny afternoon," Katherine Bush, spokeswoman for the resort said Saturday. "The snow surface was great and the series of rollers toward the bottom made for a really fun run."
In total, Copper has six lifts open: American Eagle with access to the Bouncer, Main Vein and Rhapsody trails; the newly open American Flyer Lift with access to the High Point trail; the Excelerator Lift with access to the Ptarmigan trail; the Gem and Pitchfork lifts with access to the beginner trail Green Acres and the Easy Rider lift with access to the learning area.
The ski area is focusing snowmaking and trail grooming efforts on forming the superpipe that is nearly halfway completed, according to Bush.
Arapahoe Basin now offers top-to-bottom skiing after opening the Lenawee Lift Saturday.
Intermediate trails include Lenawee Face, Dercum's Gulch, High Noon and Ramrod along with the High Divide terrain park and Pika's Place beginner area.
The ski area added 70 acres to its skiable terrain, up from the 20 acres previously offered.
Keystone Resort has 122 acres after adding additional terrain Thursday on Schoolmarm, a beginner trail, as well as portions of the Silver Spoon and Jay Bird trails. Six trails, including a terrain park with more than 25 features, and five lifts will be open for the upcoming weekend at Keystone.
Kicking off Thanksgiving weekend, the resort's night skiing access and tubing hill are slated to open Wednesday.
Loveland Ski Area opened additional terrain and Chair 6 Tuesday. So far, Loveland has reported more snowfall than Summit County resorts with 17 inches of natural snow to date.
The weather outlook for the weekend doesn't forecast a significant chance of snow, though the county may wake up to a light dusting this morning.
Today's high temperature is forecasted at 38 degrees with a low of 17 accompanied by winds with gusts as high as 23 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
