More terrain opens across Summit County

Leading the county with the highest acreage tally, Breckenridge Ski Resort is opening Peak 7 today. With snow still falling Tuesday, Breckenridge Ski Resort reported over a foot of new snow at the resort in the past 24 hours.

Peak 7 and the Independence SuperChair will open accessing Pioneer, Swan City, Upper Wirepatch, Upper Lincoln Meadows and Lower Forget-Me-Not. The Freeway Terrain Park and Pipe will also be open.

The ski resort has received 20 inches in the past week and now has more than 600 acres open across peaks 8 and 9.

The Independence SuperChair will open at 9 a.m. today and all skier services will be fully operational.

"We are very excited to have this much terrain to offer guests right before the holidays," said Alysa Hetze, spokeswoman for the resort. "The last storm was just what we needed."

Other notable openings in the county today are three runs on Arapahoe Basin's upper mountain: Humbug, Powerline and the Lenawee Park.

"It's been so awesome at the mountain," said Adrienne Saia Isaac, spokeswoman for Arapahoe Basin. "There's no easier way to see a smile on everyone's face than to have fresh snow falling."

Alan Henceroth, chief operating officer of Arapahoe Basin, said the next trails to open will be Wrangler and Cornice Run/West Wall.

"We may see some of those trails open briefly, in the past, we may open a trail for a couple hours to let the snow get packed," Henceroth said. "We then may close it for the evening and let it set up and stiffen up over night."

Copper Mountain has consistently opened new terrain in West Village and Union Creek with the Express and Kokomo lifts and trails Vein Glory, Sno Deal and Lower Roundabout open.

The ski area's Rosi's Run will also be accessible from the Super Bee Lift this weekend. The ski area currently offers 463 skiable acres.
