Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world's only daily column that prefers to run, not ski, through snow. Apparently, there are others like us. The New Year's Day Move It Or Lose It 5k hosted by Breck rec attracted 16 brave souls to the golf course. These hardy individuals are impervious to cold and the muscle-sapping effects of high altitude. Charlotte Sanderson, a visitor from jolly old England, won the event with a time of 23 minutes and 53 seconds. Not a bad finish considering the drag created by the icicles that surely formed on all the runners and the ankle-snapping, ice-rink conditions. Behind Ms. Sanderson was Chris Wells, Kevin Minard, Richard Hansin, John Wessels, Mary Kate Collins, Keith Collins, Nicholas Tracy, Cassie Collins, James Godish, Denise Remondino, Michelle Tracy, Julie Keller, Elaine Collins, Carolyn Ann Hansing and Nathalie Mazo. Congratulations on starting 2013 with something other than a hangover.
You know what's good for a hangover? No, aside from a pickle juice and bacon smoothie. A good snow, of course. Well, we didn't get one and our throbbing headache continued into the new year. Was everyone as jealous as we were to read that Steamboat raked in record levels of powder in December? Just wait. Things are just getting started here in Summit. Ullr Fest is on the horizon, after all. The party is only just beginning.
