The board of directors of the Red, White & Blue Fire District appointed Jim Brook of Breckenridge to the board, replacing Jim Keating, who resigned to become the interim fire chief. Brook was sworn in at their regularly scheduled board meeting on Dec. 5.Keating moved to Breckenridge in 2001. Having grown up in the mountains of Winnipeg, he has been skiing for most of his life. He and his wife, Laura Leigh, whom he met in college, have three children; two of whom live in Colorado. Much of Brook's professional background includes service in public utilities, which, as he says, "have a lot of parallels to the fire service." He has extensive experience in acquisitions and mergers, which, he thinks, will benefit the board and the community as a whole. "As a board member, I will be able to bring what is relevant from my past experiences to my service at Red, White & Blue," he said. "This fresh perspective will allow us, as the board of directors, to continue to be able to objectively assess information to make informed and well-thought decisions that consider the community we serve." Brook is no stranger to community involvement, serving on the board of directors at the Highlands of Breckenridge for the past five years, the last four of them as president; he also volunteers at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church as a member of the vestry, and as the president-elect of the Rotary Club of Summit County. Brook sees the role of the board of directors as a "strong team of people with varied and complementary skills who work well together to the benefit of the community."
