Pianist and songwriter Marco Benevento performs his mix of indie rock, jazz and electro pop tonight at three20south in Breckenridge and again on Sunday at The Barkley Ballrooom in Frisco. The Summit County shows are part of a yearlong tour in support of his new album, "TigerFace," released in September 2012.Benevento will share the stage with Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz and drummer Andy Borger, who played with Tom Waits. His music is described as a connection between Explosions In The Sky and Tortoise and Brian Eno and Brad Mehldau; his influences are as diverse as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, David Byrne and Jon Brion. "I'm always hearing artists and discovering new music that influences and inspires me," said Benevento. The cross of acoustic music, rock and electronica reflected in Benevento's album goes back to his high school days, when he started playing classic rock at parties and battles of the bands, but also experimented with his four-track recorder. "I'd say that most songs on the record are more on the rock side versus a jazz side. Conceptually speaking, the songwriting has progressively evolved with each new album," he said. This eclectic sound has taken Benevento to a variety of venues, from jazz clubs to rock rooms, including Carnegie Hall, Newport Jazz Festival and Bonnaroo. Music fans at three20south and The Barkley Ballroom can expect a "total piano rock party concert." "No one will be sitting, everyone will be dancing and no one will leave without seeing me wearing a tiger mask," said Benevento.
