Rebel Tongue speaks soul-hop, funk & jazz

The Denver-based hip-hop fusion group, Rebel Tongue, takes the stage at the Goat Soup and Whiskey Tavern in Keystone tonight. Described as blending "conscious, rapid-fire lyrics with funk, jazz and a twist of soul," the band released a seven-track debut album, "Movin' On," featuring special guests like Lige Curry and Danny Bedrosian of Parliament-Funkadelic fame. Here, band member Chris Murphy delves into funny stories and how the Summit Daily is a source of the group's inspiration:

People, life, art, history, YOU.

A bunch of us were in Idaho awhile back and our baritone player ate his spinach salad a bit too quick and puked it up into his horn while warming up backstage. I'll never forget that one. Hah.

Rebel Tongue is our main focal point but many of us do play in various other acts as well. I will be up next week at The Goat with Danny Bedrosian and Secret Army (keyboardist of Parliament-Funkadelic) in what is sure to be a slamming, don't miss show. Mike and I play with the Demon Funkies as well and Josh who has been doing lots of shows with us as of late is the bass player for Kinetix.

We are really looking forward to getting back in the studio to follow up last year's release, "Movin on'" and to continue to spread our word all over!

Our live show tends to leave people thinking of who and what to compare us to (scratching your earholes, we like to say) which is something that we love hearing. We have so many influences and like to touch on just about all of them musically/emotionally. Azma (our vocalist/MC) has such conscious lyrics and a soulful delivery that definitely keeps your attention all night.

This is Rebel Tongue's first time up in Keystone but we have all of us played up here a ton and love it, so let's make it a good one. Join us and come get licked by the tongue.
