Good morning and welcome to Summit Up, the world's only daily column that's excited about the Spontaneous Combustion and the 43rd annual Frisco Gold Rush which both take place this weekend in the beautiful hamlet known of Frisco.
The wild weekend gets started with the free Museum Movie Night at 4 p.m. on Friday with a showing of the original 1925 classic Charlie Chaplin move "The Gold Rush" in the log chapel at the Frisco Historic Park. It's free. The building opens at 3:30 with seating available on a first-come basis. Hot cider and popcorn will be served.
From there, the combustion begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday. There will be food and beverages and the proceeds benefit the Summit Nordic Ski Club. At 7:15, pyro Jeff Berino will blow up some fireworks.
Sunday is the Gold Rush. There's a 5k snowshoe race, a 10k classic ski race, a 15k skate ski race, a treasure hunt and a 5k freestyle/fun race. For more info or to register for a race, call (970) 668-9133 or visit friscorecreation.com.
