Tonight at the North Branch Library in Silverthorne, Linda Ginsberg and others present the first in the 2013 travel slide show series sponsored by Friends of Summit County Libraries.
The slide show shares imagery from a September 2011 trip by 11 Summit County women, ages 56-78. The group climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa at 19,340 feet and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.
"We'll talk about the guides and porters, how our adventure came about and how we trained," said Ginsberg. They will also talk about Kilimanjaro and its formation, glaciers and climate zones.
In the second part of the program, the audience will enjoy an armchair adventure to the top of Kilimanjaro.
"We'll share the breathtaking beauty along our route, the daily rhythm of our trekking and the great camaraderie and joys along the way," said Ginsberg. "After the challenging climb, it was exhilarating to reach our sunrise summit together."
The Friends of Summit County Libraries presents these talks as part of their fundraising efforts to help the libraries purchase books and other supplies. For more info or to participate in future slide shows, find them on Facebook or Twitter or contact Janet Goode at (970) 468-5887.
