A tractor trailer jackknifed on westbound Interstate 70 Sunday morning rupturing fuel tanks that spilled diesel across the road and closed the Interstate near Vail in both directions for more than two hours.
While traffic is now moving in eastbound lanes between mile markers 168 and 171, the stretch remains closed as clean up continues on west bound lanes, said Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Nancy Shanks.
The agency estimates that the road could reopen by 9:30 a.m.
No one was injured and east bound lanes reopened at about 8:15 a.m.
"It looks a lot worse than it actually is," said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis.
