Whiskey Tango hits the High Country for a free show starting at 10 tonight at Jonny G's Bar, Nightclub & Pizzeria, 409 Main St. in Frisco. Here, acoustic rhythm/lead guitarist Zac Steinman gives us the goods on the band:
Imagine if Bela Fleck and Jerry Garcia (or Janis Joplin if that's a better visual for you) conceived a baby during an underground rave. In layman's lingo, bluegrass meets rock and roll meets electronic meets your face.
In 2009-10 we played a year straight of Tuesday nights at Quixotes True Blue in Denver. We dubbed the night "Tango Tuesday," and needless to say, we got pretty good at staying out late on a Tuesday.
(Being named) 2011 and 2012 Denver Westword Best New Rock - Improv/Jam Band. For the last three years we've organized and hosted our own music festival, Black Mountain Music Festival, and brought out numerous up-and-coming bands strictly from Colorado. It's been a great experience over the years for us and we look forward to see what lies ahead for the festival.
Listening to others' music, book learning and Mother Nature.
You as a music lover can expect a high-energy, bouncing-off-the-walls bluegrass show, followed by a spacey electronic funk jam with a titillating X-rated Nate Todd story session skulked in there. Basically, expect the unexpected.
After nearly a year's worth of work we released our debut album, "Groggy Mountain Mornings," last December. You can download it from our website: www.whiskeytangoCO.com. Our original song, "Annalisa," was featured in the CD sampler of the December issue of Relix Magazine.
Yes, we do LOVE whiskey shots.
