Summit County Police Blotter: High-speed chases, hit-and-runs & thieves

All individuals named are presumed innocent until proven guilty.Cops chase down stolen vehicle on I-70A BMW left to warm up at a motel in Silverthorne was stolen Jan. 15 and the thief led state authorities on a high-speed chase down Interstate 70 before he was caught. The owner of the car reported it stolen after he left it running and unlocked in the parking lot of his motel and returned to find it missing, according to a report from the Silverthorne Police Department. Not long after a Colorado State Patrol trooper spotted the vehicle on the highway in Dumont heading eastbound at 105 mph. The officer radioed another trooper on Floyd Hill and "the chase was on," the report stated. Then another car, reported stolen out of Texas, caught up with authorities and passed the patrol vehicles, trying to help the BMW get away. State authorities followed both vehicles until traffic began to back up on the highway as the chase approached Denver and it was determined it was too dangerous to continue pursuit. The driver of the BMW got away, but the second vehicle, the car thief's partner in crime, crashed in Denver. The woman driving reportedly ran into a nearby office building, pulled a fire alarm and tried to walk out with everyone else as they were evacuating the building. She was arrested, according to the Silverthorne Police report. Authorities found the BMW two weeks later in Waco, Texas. The driver confessed to the crime, the report states. Silverthorne PD: Driver, pedestrian unsure hit-&-run accident occurred Both the driver and the pedestrian involved in a hit-and-run accident in Silverthorne Jan. 17, were unsure a collision had happened. Officers contacted the victim, a man who appeared to have fallen down and had blood on his face, after the accident, according to a report from the Silverthorne Police Department. He told authorities he thought he might have been hit by a car, but he couldn't remember for sure, the report states. It was a license plate and blood found in the snow that confirmed the collision has occurred. When officers located the driver of the vehicle, she reportedly said her windows had been fogged up and she didn't realize she'd hit someone, according to the report. The pedestrian had to be transported to the hospital. The driver was ticketed, the report states.

Jacket stolenA $700 down jacket was reported stolen from a bar in Breckenridge Jan. 15. The owner reportedly told authorities he'd placed his coat on a coat rack in the middle of the bar, and had last seen it around 1 a.m. At closing time, it was gone and no one had turned it in., according to a report from the Breckenridge Police Department. Breckenridge PD: Thief stiffs shuttle driver A shuttle driver in Breckenridge reported $200 stolen Jan. 27 after someone apparently took all the money in his tip jar. The driver said he'd parked his shuttle and gone inside to wait for the passengers he was picking up. He left the doors of the shuttle standing open, according to a report from the Breckenridge Police Department. When he returned, the money was gone. He told authorities he didn't know who might have taken the money, the report stated.
