Hollywood glitz, glamour returns to Summit County

Sunday night will be all about Hollywood when film lovers gather for Oscar night at 5:30 p.m. at Fatty's Pizzeria, 106 S. Ridge St. in Breckenridge.

The Breckenridge Festival of Film brings back the event after a break of several years, turning the upstairs of the restaurant into a screening room to broadcast the 85th Annual Academy Awards live.

"We have not had this event for many years as it was replaced with a very successful Mystery Dinner," said Ambur Stevens of the Breckenridge Festival of Film (BFF). "However, we felt the need to break from that tradition and get back to film. And what better way than the Academy Awards?"

The evening features a red carpet, a $5 ballot to guess winners, a trivia contest, food and a champagne toast. There will be prizes including cash, movie tickets, Subway coupons, pizza certificates and even a couple of trophies.

Event coordinator Phyllis Martinez has her picks for the special night. "This was a great year for movies. My personal favorite - but I don't think it's going to win - is 'Lincoln.'"

"Personally I think 'Argo' is going to win," said BFF programming director Dianna Nilsson. "And Daniel Day Lewis will win best actor."

The film and actor have both been recognized with other awards this year, including a Golden Globe and Critics' Choice.

On Sunday, eventgoers are encouraged to get in the spirit of the Oscars and dress up for the red carpet. "Of course, all Hollywood glitz and glamour - it's gonna be fun," said Martinez. "I think that everybody who loves movies will have a good time."

Throughout the year, the Breckenridge Festival of Film organizes a number of benefits to support the festival, among them last November's "Hollywood and Wine," which has been the most successful, Nilsson said.

Volunteers are currently reviewing films for this year's festival, which will be held Sept. 19-22.

Tickets for the Oscar night are $25. For reservations and more information call (970) 485-0813 or visit www.breckfilmfest.com.
