Thomas: Republicans still too extreme

Kim McGahey takes over the reins of the local GOP and states that he believes that the majority of voters in the county feel as he does and all he and his cohorts have to do is to get the word out. Kim, we know what your party stands for and that is why not only Democrats but independents have voted down what has become an extreme party on the far right.

Some of the stands that offend many of us are: (1) Don't tax the wealthy, when they are happy, they give us all jobs. Uh, Yeah! (2) Repeal ObamaCare and put it back in the hands of the competitive insurance companies. It doesn't matter if we put the Insurance companies in charge of medical discussions, after all they owe their allegiance to their shareholders. (3) Homosexuality is a treatable disease so they deserve no special legal protection and certainly any talk of marriage is a horrible threat to our society and must be put down. (4) Immigration is the largest internal threat to our nation. No Amnesty, no path to citizenship. Put a 20-foot wall along the border and assign the National Guard patrol duty 24/7. (5) Global warming is a fallacy perpetrated by the liberal press to attempt to scare us all. Shorter winters, shrinking Arctic ice and rising coastal waters are merely a normal weather cycle and nothing more. (6) Woman cannot be trusted with their own medical decisions. Where we control state governments, we will put a politician between her and her doctor (this from a party that is for less government).

So, Kim good luck. I remember when GOP was a responsible party who worked across party lines and believed in small government, low taxes and a strong defense. No more!
