Demons rally 7, leave Tigers in dust

The Summit Tigers' baseball team lost its season opener in Buena Vista Tuesday, 10-3.

The team gave up seven runs in the third inning due to three errors - and couldn't catch the Demons from there.

"Today was our first game of the year on a baseball field," head coach Tom Looby said. "The guys weren't used to playing in the dirt. We struggled with ground balls in one inning," which led to the errors and the Demons' rally. The Tigers have been practicing on the only non-snow-covered field at Summit High School, the turf football field.

Though the fielding may have been an issued, Brian Bossert, Ricky Seltzer and Jake Latta all pitched well for the Tigers, Looby said.

At the plate, Kyle McCormick led Summit with two hits, while Thomas DeBonville and Mitchell Gray each had a hit. Luke Egging scored two runs for Summit.

Summit next faces Alameda on the road Friday.

"It should be a real competitive game. We were able to beat them by one run last season," the coach said, adding that Alameda's team is a young one in development, too.
