Colo. fire crews hoping for 90 percent containment

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Fire containment lines are holding around a wildfire burning in the foothills west of Fort Collins despite gusty winds.

The Galena Fire is 75 percent contained and incident commander Tony Simons says crews hope to increase the figure to 90 percent by the end of the day.

Over 130 people, mostly from Colorado and Wyoming, are fighting the fire, which broke out Friday. Two helicopters dropped water on the fire Monday but one has since left and the other has been grounded by the winds.

Hundreds of residents evacuated by the fire were allowed to return Saturday, but have been told to remain ready to leave in case the fire spreads.

The fire burned around 1,000 acres in Lory State Park, damaging numerous pedestrian bridges. The park remains closed.
