In honor of Child Abuse Prevention month FIRC and Prevent Child Abuse Colorado cordially invite you to a free dinner and author presentation "The Sex-Wise Parent" presented by Dr. Janet Rosenzweig Monday at the Frisco Senior Center. Dinner and child care check-in will be from 5:30-6 p.m. with the presentation and a Q&A from 6-7:30. Spanish translation will be provided. Help High Country Conservation Center honor Summit County's deserving individuals, businesses and volunteers at this year's Party for Planet being held on Earth Day, Monday, April 22. Celebrate Earth Day this year with the High Country Conservation Center at its Party for the Planet at Pug's from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Join the HCCC at Pug Ryan's Brewery in Dillon for live music, good food and drinks! Entry is $10 and you receive appetizers and two beers. All proceeds benefit High Country Conservation Center's new Summit Community Garden Network supporting five community gardens across Summit County. Are you looking for service opportunities in Summit County? Domus Pacis Family Respite is a local nonprofit that provides respites or getaways to families dealing with all stages of cancer. Domus Pacis is looking for new volunteers to help bake and prepare meals for families who are visiting Summit County and taking a break from their day-to-day dealings with cancer. The Breckenridge Heritage Alliance is seeking nominations for the second annual Theobald Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the history of the Breckenridge area. The award will identify a person, business or project that exemplifies the town's commitment to historic preservation; celebrates the history of Breckenridge in a unique way; demonstrates leadership and volunteerism, or both, for historic preservation and heritage tourism; or uncovers new facts or stories about the town's history. Summit County Mountain Mentors is a community-based mentoring program that matches adult volunteers with youths ages 8-16. Its mission is "to positively influence the youth of Summit County to lead healthy lifestyles through a consistent one-on-one relationship with an adult." Parents who would like to visit Summit County Preschool for summer and fall enrollment are invited to an enrollment open house from 10 a.m. to noon and 3-5 p.m. on April 25. Stop in during those times to visit classrooms, meet teachers and complete paperwork for enrollment. Refreshments will be provided and questions will be answered. Learn how to buy a house from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 in the Buffalo Mountain Room at the County Commons in Frisco. You will learn the basics, from A to Z, of what it takes to purchase a home. The class is free and is sponsored by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, and put on by the Summit Combined Housing Authority with help from local volunteers who will walk you through the lending process, real estate transaction, title company portion and home inspection. Registration is now open for the 37th annual Salomon Run the Rockies weekend on June 8-9. Registration is available online at www.RuntheRockies.com. Current discounted prices are $50 for the half marathon and $40 for the 10K. The trail race registration is $40 for the 5K and 10K. Prices go up May 1. Day-of registration will be available for both races. Registration for the road race on June 8 is available at the Frisco Recreation Building at Third Avenue and Main Street from 6-8 a.m. The 5K and 10K trail race day-of registration will be available at the Frisco Day Lodge from 7-8 a.m. on Sunday, June 9. The Alpine Earth Center in Silverthorne is screening "Dirt! The Movie" at 4 p.m. on April 14 and 6 p.m. on April 17. For this movie, presenters will be Sherie Sobke, from Alpine Earth Center, and Jen Santry, from High Country Conservation Center. Upcoming movies: "Dirt! The Movie," "The Greater Good," "Catching Babies," "Genetic Roulette," "Thrive," "Beautiful Truth," "Cats of Mirikitani" and "Law of Similars." The fee is $5.
