Rec center hosts doggy day

On Sunday, ahead of the annual pool maintenance shutdown, the Silverthorne Recreation Center opens the pool for its annual Doggy Day at the Pool. Local pet supply companies will be on hand providing raffle prizes for dogs and humans alike.

The rec center has partnered with the League for Animals and People of the Summit (LAPS) to host this great community event, and a portion of proceeds will benefit LAPS programs, which benefit the general welfare of companion animals whose low-income owners are in need of financial assistance.

Registration is $12 for the first dog in a family and $3 for each additional dog. Owners must provide proof of current vaccinations for rabies, distemper and bordetella. There are two sessions available, one from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and another from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information or to sign up, call 970-262-7370.

Breck Festival of Film seeks critics

Film critics are needed for the Breckenridge Festival of Film, slated for Sept. 19-22. Critics help decide the independent film lineup for the fall event, the mission of which is to inspire, educate and entertain.

Volunteers can review one or many films by streaming them to their home computers. Get started by visiting www.breckfilmfest.com, clicking “About Us” and then “Newsletter Sign-Up,” and submit a form, checking the “Reviewing” box to indicate your interest in being a critic.

Once you have submitted the form, contact Dianna Nilsson at breckfilmfest@gmail.com to finish activating your account — and begin earning credit toward free festival tickets. The deadline for reviewing is June 1.

Check back often at www.breckfilmfest.com to see the latest on the festival lineup.
