Alpenglow preseason concert features Summit High scholarship winner

The 17th season of the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival will kick off with a special preseason spring soiree concert on Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m.

The concert features Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival co-artistic directors Rieko Aizawa on piano and Jesse Mills on violin, who will perform a Mozart sonata for violin and piano, a Brahms sonata for violin and piano and a piano solo, “Jeux d’eau,” by Ravel. Taylor Bohlender, 2014 Alpenglow Scholarship recipient, will perform a vocal solo, as well.

Scholarship recipient

Each year, Alpenglow awards a scholarship to a promising local music student who has demonstrated outstanding musical talent and who intends to study music in college.

Bohlender grew up in Summit County and is a 2014 graduate of Summit High School. She started singing publicly for the Lake Dillon Theater Company in children’s shows and has been a member of the Summit Middle School Choir and the Summit High School Summit Singers, where she was a leader in the soprano section.

Bohlender discovered her passion for opera after singer Keith Miller came to perform at Summit High School. She learned about the Opera Young Artist program at the Crested Butte Music Festival, directed by Miller, and signed up for the summer camp in 2012 and 2013. The music camp was eye-opening for her and led to Bohlender’s desire to make music a part of her professional life and future. She will be attending Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, in the fall and will be studying vocal performance and music education.
