Boettcher Foundation awards $40,000 grant to new Breckenridge library

On Tuesday, June 10, Katie Kramer, vice president of the Boettcher Foundation, presented a capital grant check for $40,000 to representatives from the town of Breckenridge, Summit County and the Summit County Library for the Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center and Library project.

Kramer called the building renovation project “a great example of collaboration” between local entities. The project’s current budget is hovering right around $9 million, said Mark Burke, Breckenridge mayor pro tem.

Graham Johnson, of Spectrum, the general contractor for the project, led a short tour through the building, highlighting some of the most recent developments in the construction process, including progress that has been made on the mezzanine level and the patio adjoining the main section of the library space.

When completed, the building will be home to the South Branch of the Summit County Library with study rooms and other amenities; the Speakeasy Theater; a community room with adjacent coffee shop and catering kitchen; a partially snow-melted outdoor patio with views of the Tenmile Range; and office space for nonprofit organizations on the mezzanine level.

“It’s a true community building, not just a library,” Burke said.

About the Boettcher Foundation

Claude K. Boettcher and his father, Charles, created the Boettcher Foundation in 1937. It was a dream of Claude’s to use his wealth to give back to his native state and its people, and since its inception, the Boettcher Foundation has been making capital grants to Colorado’s most well-regarded and impactful nonprofits, furthering their missions and touching hundreds of thousands of Coloradans.

The Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center and Library project was one of a handful of grant recipients profiled in the Boettcher Foundation’s 2013 Year in Review publication, which described the building as “an iconic educational and historical center for the population of south Summit County.”
