Arapahoe Basin Ski Area’s newest on-mountain dining experience, the 6th Alley Bar & Grill, opened to the public with full lunch and après ski menus on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Located on the main level of the A-Frame base lodge, the 6th Alley Bar & Grill underwent a $1 million renovation over the summer, tripling its overall capacity by expanding the bar area, creating balcony seating on the second floor and adding weather protection to its outside venue, The Perch.
Table service has been added to enhance the base-area dining experience for guests. Now, 6th Alley patrons can expect about 20 rotating draft beers with 15 taps dedicated to Colorado microbrews and a new drink menu featuring variations on the Moscow Mule and, of course, the legendary A-Basin Bacon Bloody Mary.
Food and beverage director chef Christopher Rybak created new lunch, après ski and drink menus, catering to all appetites by including unconventional ski-area fare such as Jackalope Bratwurst (served with cherries, habañero peppers and caramelized onion relish) alongside standard après ski favorites such as wings, nachos and artichoke dip.
“The food and beverage team at A-Basin has another opportunity to provide a unique culinary experience in terms of ski-area dining,” Rybak said of the new menus.
The new decorating scheme in the 6th Alley pays tribute to the heritage of A-Basin, while adding a modern twist. The ski area gave a nod to its rich history by intertwining facts about the mountain and historical photos of its founders and early years as a ski area.
These elements were incorporated into the overall design, including a large mural on the south wall of the 6th Alley and archival photos on the dining area’s tabletops.
“It’s a new look, for sure, but those historical elements help maintain the same vibe people have grown to love about the 6th Alley, and I think patrons will be intrigued,” Rybak said. “We can’t wait to invite our guests back to their favorite ski area bar — they’re the ones who keep that special vibe alive at the Basin.”
