Famed actor and comedian Kevin Nealon will perform to a sold-out crowd at the Silverthorne Pavilion on Friday, Dec. 13, with special guest Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald. Nealon is best known for his nine-year stint as a cast member of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and has received critical acclaim for his role in the Showtime series “Weeds.”
Tickets went on sale for the show on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and VIP and reserved table tickets both sold out within minutes, said Blair McGary, pavilion and marketing coordinator for the town of Silverthorne.
“Individual tickets sold out within two weeks,” she said. “We were very pumped on the overwhelming response and were pleased to bring such a big-name act to town at an affordable price.”
McGary said landing a prominent talent like Nealon was possible through the town’s great relationship with Comedy Works.
“We have been booking our Valentine’s Comedy acts through them for years,” she said. “I mentioned to our contact, Mike Raftery, to keep us in mind if there ever were any big-name acts coming through the state that he thought we may be able to piggy back of off. When he gave us a call back in June with the opportunity to host Kevin Nealon, we jumped all over it.”
Nealon first found great comedic success as one of the longest-running cast members on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” (1986-1995), creating some of the show’s most memorable characters, including The Subliminal Man and Hans and Franz. Nealon’s recurring role as an anchor on “Weekend Update” made the sketch a show staple. In 1988, Nealon earned an Emmy Award nomination as part of the SNL writing team.
In “Weeds,” Nealon portrayed a pot-smoking accountant and business adviser. The show, which recently completed its eighth and final season, was honored at the 2006, 2007 and 2009 Golden Globes with nominations for “Best Television Series Comedy or Musical.” In 2007 and 2009, “Weeds” was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.”
Nealon’s second stand-up special for Showtime, “Whelmed … But Not Overly,” debuted in August 2012 and is now available on DVD. On the big screen, Nealon recently starred alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in “Just Go with It,” a film about a man who enlists the help of his receptionist and her kids to land the woman of his dreams. In the film, he portrays one half of a plastic-surgery-obsessed couple. “Just Go with It” grossed more than $30 million in its opening weekend and more than $214 million worldwide.
“Kevin Nealon is so well known for so many different characters and acts, from his stint on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in the ’90s to his recent success with ‘Weeds’ to his numerous movie appearances,” McGary said. “He is so well known for his Copper Mountain dialogue on Conan O’Brien, and I think that really resonates with our community. It makes us feel like he knows our home.”
