For the past six years, Art on a Whim Gallery in Breckenridge has partnered with one of the gallery's artists, Lelija Roy, to donate one of her original paintings to be auctioned off by the National Repertory Orchestra to raise money for the organization's programs.

"The NRO is proud to change lives through music thanks to their commitment to fostering growth in young musicians," said Brian Raitman, who owns Art on a Whim with his family. "If you have ever had the pleasure to attend one of their concerts, you, too, will feel the life-altering impact the incredible music provides."

This year's donation is a 24-inch-by-24-inch painting titled "Sunday Grove." It was created with a richly textured combination of rice papers, fabrics and a wide array of materials for color, Raitman said, and it's valued at $1,500.

New this year, Art on a Whim is also donating artwork to the Breckenridge Music Festival for a similar fundraising drive.

"We are excited," Raitman said. "The BMF began bringing great music to Breckenridge in 1980. For the past 35 years, their programming has entertained and enriched our town with year-round concert festivities. Just like our galleries, the BMF prides itself on the diversity of their program."

The BMF donation is a triptych in vitreous enamel created by gallery artist Zingaro. The "Z Squares" also retail for $1,500 as a set. Raitman said both the BMF and NRO donations help add to the vibrancy of the cultural community in Summit County.

"There's so much synergy between art, whether it be auditory or visual," he said. "It's important to keep both those aspects in our lives. Breckenridge makes a better cultural destination when all of our forces are aligned."
