You may have seen the filmmakers stand on stage during the 2014 Academy Awards, but chances are, you haven't seen "Lady in Number Six," this year's Oscar winner for live action short.
On Saturday, June 21, the Breckenridge Film Festival is holding its annual Hollywood & Wine fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Beaver Run Resort Imperial Ballroom.
Featured on its schedule of events is a screening of "Lady in Number Six," a powerful, inspirational and uplifting story of Alice Herz Sommer, who at 110 years of age was the oldest known Holocaust survivor. In the film, Sommer, who died in February this year, shares her views on how to live a long and happy life, discussing music, laughter and how to remain optimistic, come what may. The film features beautiful photographs and rare film footage that truly brings Sommer's extraordinary story to life.
Hollywood & Wine will be among the only opportunities to see this film on the big screen.
The event has much more in store than the film, though. It's a red-carpet evening of fine wines and local beers, delicious eats and a silent auction featuring goods and services from the Summit County business community.
Featured silent auction items include a coveted private dinner with CMC culinary master Ian Buchanan, as well as zip line tours with Arkansas Valley Adventures, rounds of golf and lessons at the Breckenridge Golf Club, artwork, pet perks, dinner certificates and much more.
"We can't wait to host this fun evening that supports the festival," said Janice Kurbjun, executive director of the festival. "By purchasing tickets and supporting us through the silent auction, people at the event are helping us further our mission of presenting and celebrating art in the form of cinema to the community, visitors and independent filmmakers through diverse film experiences in an authentic mountain environment, through collaborations, film nights, educational forums, free youth and family programming and the four-day festival."
The event is also a chance to get a "sneak peek" of films slated for the upcoming 2014 Breckenridge Film Festival, which takes place Thursday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 21. Attendees should bring their trivia brains, too, as there will be opportunities to win a bottle of wine or two by answering Hollywood trivia as announced by longtime Breckenridge locals Elisabeth Lawrence and Nell Bailey.
Hollywood & Wine is a perfect opportunity to get to know the festival as an organization and to meet its primary players.
